Campuses
Belfast
Occupying two connected prominent sites on York Street, just off Belfast city centre and adjacent to St Anne's Cathedral, the Belfast campus has a strong, but not exclusive, focus on art and design. Nearly one thousand students study here, using the studio, workshops and computer facilities on offer.
Students take full advantage of the social opportunities afforded by Belfast itself; there are all the amenities you would expect to find in the province's capital. For sport and leisure, students can also use the facilities at Jordanstown, just a short bus, train of taxi ride to the north. Coleraine
Modern Languages: an opportunity to study the major languages of modern Europe; French, Spanish and German, in a variety of combinations. These degrees focus on the contemporary language and society of the relevant country imparting skills of language competence and cultural awareness. Options in contemporary European literature and history complement the core offerings. This year we are introducing a specialized degree in French.
BA (Hons) English: an opportunity to study the great writers of English from Sheakespeare to the present-day, with special attention given to Irish writing in English. The core of the course requires that students read writers like Shakespeare, Dickens and Hardy, while options allow for study in American and Irish literature.
BA (Hons) Irish/Irish Studies: an opportunity to study Irish language, literature and history from earliest time to the present. In addition to the core modules in Gaelic literature and society, Irish Studies includes Irish literature in English and Irish History through the medium of English. A feature of this provision is Scottish Gaelic. Magee
Founded in the 19th century as a college for the training of the Presbyterian ministry, Magee in Londonderry is a mixture of historically significant and purpose built academic and research accommodation.
At Magee languages are available in combinations involving French, German, Spanish and Irish, with each of these being combinable with Business, International Politics, Law, Psychology and Marketing. The emphasis at Magee is on developing linguistic competence in an applied and vocationally-oriented atmosphere.
Student numbers here have increased by 400% since the formation of the University of Ulster in 1984, with a current student population of around 2,800 undertaking a range of undergraduate, postgraduate and research opportunities. Magee occupies a picturesque site just a short distance from Derry city centre. Although the campus is relatively small, there are on and off-campus accommodation and comprehensive sports facilities, as well as a wealth of recreational opportunities offered in the city. Derry is an excellent starting point for exploring the North West. The mountains and moors of County Donegal are just a short journey away and Donegal Town, Sligo and the West Coast are all easily within the reach of the city.
