Research Survey on the Irish Language in Canada

Welcome to the School of Languages and Literature at the University of Ulster.

We would like to find out your opinions through our online survey. We would be delighted if you could take the time to complete it. You can also let us know a little about yourself while still remaining anonymous. Any data or qualitative comments from this survey are entirely anonymous.

Research Project
The results from this online survey will form a case study on the Irish langauge in Canada today. This research has been made possible by a scholarship grant from the Ireland Canada University Foundation.

This case study is part of my PhD thesis at the University of Ulster in Northern Ireland. I am primarily investigating the status of the Irish language in Northern Ireland since the Belfast / Good Friday Agreement of 1998, set against a background of growing multiculturalism in the region.

Scope of the Research Project
This issues of language rights and linguistic diversity are common to both Canada and Ireland, North and South. I aim to synthesize a variety of opinions and experiences that will give an overall and diverse picture of Irish language learners and cultural affairs in Canada.
