of Arts Research
As befits our role as any outstanding
regional University with an international reputation, research
in the Faculty of Arts is, in certain areas, world-class.
Our teaching is deeply informed by research, with leading
researchers involved in delivering courses linked to their
specialisms. The History section is amongst the best 15 or
so History departments in the UK, and ranks with the best
on the island of Ireland.
Irish (which now offers part-time diplomas
at Belfast, Magee and Coleraine, and a part-time degree in
Belfast) is recognised as a leading department for its work
in dictionaries and literature. English has a reputation for
outstanding work in Irish Literature in English, as has Media
for its research into British, Irish, and Indian film.
