na Gaeilge, was compiled by Dr Fionntán de Brún,
lecturer in Irish at the University of Ulster and Dr Eamon Phoenix,
Stranmillis University College. Research
Projects In
addition to individual projects in the fields of research specialisms,
the Institute is engaged in a number of team research projects,
funded by external bodies. The main projects of this nature
are in the areas of Irish lexicography; textual corpora, including
linkage with dictionaries; applied language studies; the sociolinguistics
of the Celtic languages; religion, mythology and literature;
folk literature; Scottish Gaelic literature of emigration/immigration;
Celtic and other IE languages and cultures. Funding has been
received from the AHRC (eDIL, includes 2 Research Officers),
British Academy (funding for Visiting Professorship and colloquia
in Celto-Slavica and Celto-Indica), Research Council of the
United Kingdom (Modern Irish Lexicography and Scottish Gaelic
literature, 2 Research Fellows), Higher Education Authority,
Republic of Ireland North-South Collaborative Research Programme
(Linking Dictionaries and Texts, 2 Research Officers), INTAS
(The Power of Words in Medieval Ireland,), Ulster Scots Agency
(Conference and Proceedings on Folk Literature), and Vera Furness
(Modern Irish Lexicography, 1 Research Officer, 1 Research Assistant).
The Institute is also in
receipt of £3.2m from the Support Programme for University
Research (SPUR), a public/private initiative to promote research
in Northern Ireland, which led to the establishment of the
Academy for Irish Cultural Heritages and the creation of 11
posts (3 Chairs, 8 Lectureships). External funding was also
received to establish a Chair of Modern Irish, together with
Research Studentships, at the Magee campus of the University.
