Dr Paul Moore
Lecturer
Background
A native of Northern Ireland, Paul Moore was appointed lecturer
in Media Production in 1999 but given the developing nature
of his work he transferred to the School of Art and Design
in 2006. He has acted as Course Director for a range of programmes
and designed the University's MA in Film and Television Management
course which is sponsored by the Northern Ireland Film and
Television Commission. He is a member of the UK Soundscape
Association and the Sonic Arts Network. He has worked extensively
in Southern Africa and is visiting Professor at CityVarsity
University in Capetown. He is also Honorary Research Fellow
at Coventry University. He works as a freelance presenter
with BBC Radio Ulster.
Education
He took a B.A. Hons in English and History at the University
of Ulster in 1976. He then completed a PGCE at St. John's
College in York before entering further education as a lecturer.
He undertook a part-time MA in Twentieth Century Affairs in
1981 before completing a PhD in 1999, both through the University
of Ulster.
Research Fields
His main research areas are sound art, the digital arts and,
in particular, the relationship between sonic experience and
identity. Most recently his research work has become more
exhibition-based which has necessitated extensive work on
the issue of the relationship between theory and practice.
