The degree provides an integrated study of the development of Irish history and politics from the sixteenth century to the present day. In addition, there is a considerable comparative element, which enables you to examine Ireland's development within a wider perspective through the study of related problems in Europe. Attention is also paid to the experience of Irish communities abroad, especially in Britain and the United States. After two years of academic study at Magee students are encouraged to consider studying in North America through the Business Education Initiative (BEI), involving a minimum of 25 weeks of campus-based study that also includes exposure to alternative business cultures that will enhance your personal and professional development. Successful completion of the placement year will, at graduation, earn you the award of Diploma in Area Studies.
