Worked in industrial purchasing for many years before entering university as a mature student, archive curatorial work for 5 years with the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland

Research Fields

Eighteenth and early nineteenth century Irish History, specialising in popular politics (loyalism in the age of the French Revolution), popular protest movements, book and print history and the history of science. I am currently working on a biography of the Irish geologist, political activist and agricultural improver the Reverend William Richardson (1740-1820), to be published by Manchester University Press.
